More than a Blood-Stained Cloak

Tuesday is always Field Trip Day and this week we went to the world-famous Tirelli costume design warehouse where they make and house all kinds of fabulous costumes. Tirelli has designed customes for Brothers Grimm, Marie Antoinette, Moulin Rouge, Alice in Wonderland (Now Playing), and...Mel Gibson's the Passion of the Christ!

This is the cloak Jesus, played by Jim Caviezel, wears in the Passion of the Christ. When I saw this cloak I was shocked at the timely nature of our field trip to Tirelli and the it being Holy Week. I loved seeing this archive as a reminder that Jesus did wear a similar cloak to the one I was seeing. The "fake blood" on the costume was not fake 2,000 years ago. It was real and it was shed for me. ("In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding." Ephesians 1:7-8)

Jim Caviezel as Jesus, wearing cloak above

"They spit on Him, and took the staff and struck Him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put His own clothes on him. Then they led Him away to crucify Him." Matthew 27:30-32
