Rommaaaaa!

I have never been a huge soccer fan (except for when cheering on one of my best friends and Samford soccer star, Val). But, as they say, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" and they go to soccer games, so we do, too. A group of us went to see Rome vs. Palmero (Sicily). We payed 15 euro for tickets. We were told men pay 20 euro!

They all bring these patriotic flags and wave them throughout the entire game.

They also hold up these scarves when they sing their National Anthem.

Laurel got a big celebration hug from the man sitting next to her! So funny!

Italian soccer fans are obsessed with these mini drink concoctions of vodka and coffee. I guess they are a soccer game speciality because this was the only time we have seen them.

SPQR (shown on the flags) is an acronym all over the city. It is from a Latin phrase, Senatus Populusque Romanus ("The Senate and the People of Rome"), referring to the government of the ancient Roman Republic, and used as an official signature of the government and still is today.

Rome wins! 4-1!

It was such an awesome once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go to an European soccer game! We had so much fun! Viva Roma!
